The Revelstoke Dam
The Revelstoke Dam is a hydroelectric dam that runs across the Columbia River. The Revelstoke Dam is the second largest power generating facility in British Columbia. The reservoir behind the dam is called Lake Revelstoke. The dam has five power generating units. BC Hydro, which operates the dam, plans to add a new generator so that the power generating capacity of the dam can be increased by 500 MW, bringing the total power generating capacity to 2880 MW. The visitor centre at the dam has a number of exhibits, interactive displays, photographs and so on. Exhibits tell visitors about how water can be harnessed to generate power and the steps which are being implemented for upgrading the dam. Visitors to the dam can also take the Penstock Gateway walk through tour. There is a lookout at the dam crest from where you can catch a breathtaking view of the dam. You will also be briefed about water conservation and utilizing natural resources to meet growing energy demands and produce clean energy. There is also a gift shop which offers a number of unique souvenirs and refreshments. The dam is open to visitors from June to September from 10 am to 5 pm.
